The Engineering Division is responsible for the maintenance of all the traffic signals within Jackson County. There are approximately 150 signals. The signals are designed, constructed, and operated to allow for safe movement of vehicles and pedestrians through heavily traveled or hazardous locations. Most signals within the county have timing patterns that change throughout the day and on different days of the week to provide optimal traffic flow.
Problems occasionally develop because of failure of the electronic components in the signals, power fluctuations, bulb burnouts, or damage. Common problems are for the red, green, or yellow light to be out, flashing signals, or signals to become stuck.
